Water meters
Across southern Tasmania, around 26,000 serviced properties have a water meter while around 70,000 properties do not have one.
Southern Water is leading a statewide Water Metering Project to install water meters into unmetered properties between now and mid 2012.
This will help bring about fairer pricing for water and sewerage services across the state. Once completed, the installation of water meters will enable the introduction of two-part water pricing for all Tasmanians.
The Water Metering Project is partially funded by Southern Water and the Australian Government’s Water for the Future initiative through the National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns Program, which provided a $10 million grant.
