Building and Plumbing Applications
Under the Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008, Southern Water is responsible for providing a Certificate for Certifiable Work (Building and Plumbing) or Exemption for Certificate for Certifiable Work (Building and Plumbing) to the applicant or Permit Authority. This Certificate will advise the applicant of water and sewerage conditions that may apply to an application for a Building Permit.
Southern Water has 14 calendar days for building and 10 calendar days for plumbing only to reply with any required conditions and advice. Southern Water has 7 calendar days to request further information if required. Where further information is sought the ‘clock stops’ and the timeframe recommences when satisfactory additional information is received.
If your application does not require approval from Southern Water you may complete a Declaration of Exemption, however it should be noted that the Permit Authority (Council) may still reserve the right to request a Certificate obtained directly from Southern Water.
A Declaration of Exemption form will not be accepted as an official application for Certificate for Certifiable Work (Building and Plumbing) if submitted directly to Southern Water.
Building and Plumbing Certificate of Compliance
Under the Water and Sewerage Act 2008, the owner of a building or land may, after the completion of certifiable work in relation to the building or land, apply to Southern Water for the issue of a Certificate of Water and Sewerage Compliance (Building and Plumbing) specifying that the conditions of the Certificate of Certifiable Work (Building and Plumbing) have been complied with and that the work has been completed substantially in accordance with the information or documents submitted.
The Permit Authority (Council) may not issue a Certificate of Completion until the Certificate of Compliance has been issued by Southern Water.
