Taroona Sewerage Upgrade
The wastewater upgrade of services in Taroona was initiated by Southern Water to overcome issues with ageing infrastructure. Currently sewage is treated at the Taroona treatment plant in Nubeena Crescent.
The project forms part of the broader Regional Wastewater Strategy which will upgrade and replace non compliant and ageing infrastructure. Southern Water identified the work as a high priority following the implementation of the water and sewerage reforms on 1 July 2009.
Project benefits include
- Provide residents and businesses with a sustainable, long term wastewater sewerage system;
- Replace ageing infrastructure that currently does not meet licence requirements set by the EPA;
- Remove the discharge point from Taroona, eliminating the environmental impacts on the Marine Reserve at Crayfish point; and
- Reduce odour issues affecting surrounding properties and recreational users of the sports ground and foreshore.
