Southern Water
Working to upgrade water and sewerage services

These are just some of the projects currently  underway around southern Tasmania to improve
services for our customers and start to bring infrastructure in line with regulatory standards.

Salamanca Place sewerage upgrade ($1.5  Million)

Improving sewerage services in the historic Salamanca Place precinct.

Huon Valley Regional Water Scheme ($33 million)

To upgrade and expand water supply infrastructure to service demand in the Huon Valley.

Lenah Valley Water Supply Project

To upgrade and improve existing water services to customers experiencing pressure fluctuations and to increase capacity of supply to the area.

Lauderdale Sewerage Scheme - Phase 2 ($14 million)

A scheme to provide residents of Lauderdale with a new reticulated, wastewater system.  

This new system will play an integral role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of the Lauderdale

community and the surrounding environment.

Ellendale water treatment plant upgrade ($140,000)

A program to remove the permanent boil water alert and provide improved water quality for Ellendale.  

Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrades ($51 million)

A three year upgrade program for wastewater treatment plants to reduce pollution and improve

wastewater (sewage) treatment standards. Commencing with the Cambridge, Ranelagh, Rosny,

Orford and Maydena plants and followed by Kingborough and Brighton.  

Berriedale to Elwick and Bowen Bridge Duplication ($7.64 million)

A bulk pipeline section duplication to provide a backup mains line and address the risks inherent

in an ageing pipe, including corrosion and increasing pipeline failures, and to provide critical

backup for supply on the Eastern Shore.  

Water Metering Project ($30 million)

Installation of 60,000 water meters across the south of the state to minimise our water wastage

and leakage, make our infrastructure investments more efficient and create a fairer system for

customers.  

Reservoir Roofing Program ($7 million)

A program to reduce water quality issues like boil water notices by putting a roof on 20 uncovered

water storages.  

Gateway Sewerage upgrades ($350,000)

Upgrades to sewerage systems in New Norfolk to improve wastewater removal.  

Wastewater Pump Station upgrades ($2.15 million)

Upgrades to sewerage pumping facilities in Claremont; Brighton and Swansea

Sewerage Rationalisation - Taroona ($5.2 million)

Using excess capacity at Self’s Point Wastewater Plant to facilitate the de-commissioning of the

Taroona Wastewater Treatment Plant. 

Recently completed projects

Fairfax Terrace Bulk Water and reticulation ($1 million)

Upgrades to improve water supply in both the bulk and reticulated systems in New Norfolk.

Berriedale-Elwick

Pipeline duplication project completed.

Lauderdale sewerage scheme

Phase 1 completed

Overall Southern Water 2011 capital works program

A total of $55.8mn invested to provide vital water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades.
