Under the Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008,  Southern Water is responsible for the provision of referral advice to the Planning Authority (including Councils) on water and sewerage matters.

When an applicant submits a Planning Application to a Planning Authority the Planning Authority can seek advice from Southern Water on water and sewerage issues. 
Southern Water has 14 working days to respond with conditions and advice. Southern Water has 7 working days to request further information if required. Where further information is sought the ‘clock stops’ and the 14 day timeframe recommences when satisfactory additional information is received.
