Catchment water quality issues

Recent media coverage of water quality issues on Tasmania's East Coast relating to possible toxins in the water supply at St Helens, has raised some important issues for the water industry and the community generally.

The drinking water supplied by Southern Water is fully treated and regularly tested.  Southern Water works closely with the Department of Health and Human Services in ensuring the water supplied to our customers is in accordance with the Tasmanian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Risdon Brook Park closed when severe weather warning issued

Temporary Ban on Water Sprinklers during Total Fire Ban

To help ensure there is enough water for fighting fires and protecting properties, the use of water sprinklers in gardens is TOTALLY PROHIBITED during the any period of Total Fire Ban.

To protect public safety Southern Water will close Risdon Brook Park when a severe weather warning is issued by the Bureau of Meteorology.

The closure is necessary to eliminate any risk of visitors being struck by falling tree branches and other debris while conditions are unsafe.

The Park will re-open once the Bureau lifts the severe weather warning status.
