Community Service Activities

Customer concessions

In 2010/11 approximately 23,200 customers were in receipt of Community Service Obligation (CSO) concessions totalling around $2.7M. The concessions are provided directly to eligible customers in accordance with direction provided by the State Treasurer under the Water and Sewerage Community Service Obligations Act 2009.

Community services

We are committed to providing information about our services to the public as well as providing educational material to schools and the community about water conservation and other important water industry issues. We have extended existing funding agreements to a number of non-commercial facilities for the community, including the Tolosa Park Waterworks Reserve and Risdon Brook Park. However, these arrangements will be considered further in due course in line with the requirements of our owners as expressed in the Shareholders’ Letter of Expectation.

Other community activities include our continued support for the Steve Balcombe Southern Water Scholarship which provides support for students commencing full time study in engineering, environmental science or earth science.

The mobile drinking water trailer also is made available for community events to improve the experience for patrons as well as supporting hydration, health and environmental messages.

The Southern Water Community Grants Program is another initiative supporting the community by offering financial support for not-for-profit organisations and charitable groups that align with our values and goals.
